WTA betting Guide: How does WTA betting work?

The most important women’s tennis matches are played on the WTA Tour.
The circuit includes all four Grand Slams plus a host of other events throughout the year.
WTA tennis is popular among Unibet’s tennis bettors and, if you’d like to join our community, here’s what you need to know.

We need to talk about odds and betting markets: Specifically, there are two questions to answer:

1. What are WTA Tennis Odds and how do they work?
2. What are the different WTA betting options?

What are WTA odds and how do they work?

Starting with odds; they are here to tell us two things:

1. The probability of an outcome within the tennis match.
2. How much you will be paid if your bet wins.

Let’s look at probability first: Here’s a betting market from a match on the WTA Tour:

WTA moneylines

The numbers next to each of the players tell the story.
Iga Swiatek carries odds of -186 and that minus symbol tells us that she is the favorite.
Simona Halep has odds of +148 and the plus sign means that she is the underdog.

That’s the probability question answered: Who is more likely to win?
According to our odds setters, Iga Swiatek has a higher probability of winning this WTA match.

The second question related to payouts.
This is where the exact figures come in to tell us what we will be paid.
If we bet on Halep, the figure of +148 means that we will receive $148 for every $100 staked if she wins.

A stake of $186 on the favorite Swiatek will pay at 100 dollars if she wins the game.

You don’t have to stake those amounts: They are just to illustrate payments.
When you come to bet on any tennis match, you enter your preferred stake.
The betslip does the calculation for you so you know exactly what your outlay and possible returns will be.

WTA Public Betting :What does the Public Know?

You’ll hear certain terms when you bet on sport.
Betting with the Public or Betting against the Public are pieces of jargon that we need to bust.
The betting public actually have the power to influence the markets.

Based on their perception, they will identify who they think will win.
In this match between Iga Swiatek and Simona Halep, the weight of public opinion has placed Swiatek as the favorite.
Our odds setters now step in to confirm the final figures.

Once those odds are in place, you have to decide whether to bet with or against the public.

What are the different WTA betting options?

Now that you know how WTA odds work, it's time to check out all the different types of WTA bets out there.

#1 WTA Moneylines

The match result market that we showed you at the head of this roundup is the most popular bet. It’s called the Moneyline here in the US and it’s where most of us start.

Our betting community likes tennis moneylines because it’s a simple equation. There are no draws in this sport so we need to pick a winner.

Making your choice can be influenced by a number of factors which we’ll run through later. For now, if you’re just starting out with WTA tennis betting, we recommend that you look at the moneyline first.

#2 WTA Tennis Totals Betting

Points win games, games win sets and sets win matches. That’s the basic premise behind tennis. The method of scoring also leads to a number of totals markets.

These will include:

• Total Sets
• Total Games in the Set
• Total Games in the Match

Here are some WTA odds for Total Sets betting:

WTA total sets betting

Remember that in women’s tennis, all matches are the best of three sets. It's a race to two sets so it’s a simple equation. Will there be Under 2.5 or Over 2.5 sets?

In this match, there are odds of +138 for Over 2.5 sets. If we bet $100 and the bet wins, we are paid $138. The alternative is Under 2.5 sets at -186. To win 100 Bucks, we’d have to stake $186.

#3 Prop Betting in WTA Tennis

A prop is a proposition bet. We are proposing that a certain outcome will take place within the tennis match. Examples of props on the WTA Tour would be:

• Correct Score
• Player to win each set

Props are easy to find. Find the WTA Tour from your Unibet homepage. Click on the match you want. Now scroll down beneath the moneyline and totals betting and you’ll find other game options.

#4 WTA Parlays

There is another term to learn here. Jargon creeps into any form of betting but don’t worry - we’re here to bust it. A WTA Parlay simply refers to a bet with more than one betting pick. You can pick two, three, four or more but remember a simple rule.

With a parlay bet in the WTA , all of your betting picks need to win. If one or more of your picks let you down, there is no payout. With that important factor in mind, here is an example of a Parlay in a WTA match:

WTA 2 leg parlay

It’s a match between Diane Parry and Kirsten Flipkens. For our first pick we’ve gone for Parry to win.

Our second pick is a bet on Over 2.5 sets.
Each bet in a parlay is also called a "leg".
Because we have 2 picks in this WTA parlay this would be a 2 leg WTA parlay.

This is a Single Game Parlay because our picks are on the same game.

The alternative is to bet across more than one game. Here’s another example:

WTA 3 leg parlay

This time we’ve gone for three Moneyline picks in a three-leg parlay. Dianne Parry, Christina McHale and Storm Sanders all to win.

In this image, the odds are showing. We’ve also put in our preferred stake. Potential payouts are shown and nothing happens until you confirm. If you’re happy, click that yellow button and the bet rides.

Remember, all three of those players have to win their games for the WTA Parlay to pay.

#4 WTA Futures Betting

A Futures bet is an advance bet on an upcoming tournament. Futures are usually placed on the outright winners of the event. Options on the WTA Tour will include the four Grand Slams which are:

• The Australian Open
• The French Open
• Wimbledon
• The US Open

Here’s some WTA Futures odds for the French Open:

Odds for a Grand Slam tournament such as the French Open will appear weeks in advance. For a regular competition on the WTA Tour, the market opens in the days leading up to the event.

Futures options will be available for all WTA tournaments.

WTA Betting Tips and Strategies

We’re the tennis experts and it’s only fair to share some of that knowledge.
Hopefully you can put it to good use on your WTA betting journey:

#Tip 1: Analyze the WTA Odds

Remember that WTA odds are in place for a reason. The public has an opinion and they identify a favorite.
Our odds setters take over and publish the final odds.

It’s all about probability: We have told you who is more likely to win and it’s up to you if you want to agree. The favorites don’t always win but is this the time to bet against the public?

There are ways to help you make a decision.

#Tip 2: Do Your Research

The public has spoken but do you agree? If you want to prove or disprove their judgment, you’ll need to put in some hard yards.

Here are some variables you could consider when you're betting on the WTA:

What is the form guide telling you? If we’re at the later stages of an event, both players will be in good touch. Perhaps one player has won all matches without dropping a set. If so, they are in better form than an opponent who scrapes through on tie breaks.

Head to Heads

Have the two players met before? Look at historical results and see if there are pointers for the future.

Preference for Tournament and Surface

It’s well known that some players prefer the grass courts of Wimbledon to the hard courts found elsewhere. The same facts can also apply in reverse. Use that research to identify who performs better at certain tournaments and on certain surfaces.

Is one of the players carrying a niggle into their match? Study news updates to see if there are any injury concerns. Important research such as this could help to turn the WTA odds in your favor.

#Tip 3: Be Careful with WTA Parlays

Parlay betting in the WTA offers the opportunity to win higher payouts. On the flip side, there is greater exposure. Parlays are sometimes call a straight line multiple and that’s a good way to explain things.

Your WTA picks are in a line: If all your picks win, the line is intact and you are paid out. If one or more your picks fail, the line is broken and you lose your WTA parlay.

It’s a balance: The higher WTA odds and payouts are there but the risk is greater. Decide whether you are comfortable with this before you take on a Parlay in the WTA.

#Tip 4: Get on futures early

The best odds for the WTA Future bryd appear ahead of the event. Every time your chosen player wins a match, their odds will decrease.

Once again there is a balance: In the later rounds, there are fewer opponents. The chances of winning the tournament will increase.

The choice is yours, but the longer odds are available before a ball is hit in anger.

#Tip 5: Make the most of WTA betting promos on Unibet
